The Jewish Federation and the Opening the Doors program are thrilled to invite madrichim and interested teens to participate in the 2016-2017 Harold Wade Madrichim Leadership Institute. This program welcomes teens in grades 8 – 12 to join and become empowered with leadership skills, knowledge and easy-to-use strategies to help students with learning differences and abilities, so that these students may be more successful and learn with their peers. In the past six years we have truly been inspired by the participating teens’ engagement, perspective and willingness to learn and share with the new friends they have made in this program. These teens have made a difference with students, peers and our Jewish community.
This year, the program will take place on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m., approximately once per month. Madrichim will receive a monetary stipend for session attendance, a Certificate of Completion and/or Community Service hours and reference letters as needed, at their Graduation Celebration in May.
There are four levels of the madrichim curriculum activities, with hands on materials and a take home manual. Many of the madrichim have continued to enhance and strengthen their knowledge with new experiences, by participating in consecutive years. Four graduates of this program are studying special education or psychology in college, crediting this program for peaking their interest in people with differences and helping them to strengthen their self-confidence and define their goals.
Registration materials will be available shortly.
